4th Grade Science Project Ideas
4th grade science project ideas are pretty easy to come up with. Kids are naturally curious so it shouldn’t be difficult to get them to come up with a question they would like answered. A good question is how do worms react when they are exposed to light, or how long does it take a hamster to run through a maze? The project should be simple, yet interesting to the child, because at that age kids are very energetic and may have trouble concentrating on a complex project.

Is Water Required For A Growing Seed?
Experiment: Will seeds germinate if you soak them in a liquid other than water?
Category: Earth Science/Biology
Ages: Elementary, Middle School
One fourth grade science project that would be fun for kids is to see if seeds will germinate if you soak them in a liquid besides water, such as vinegar, milk or juice.
To do this you will need about four pots or containers that you can plant the seeds in. You’ll also need some seeds. Let the kids determine the plants they want to grow. Once you have all your materials it’s recommended that you lay out some newspaper on a counter top or table to minimize the mess. Then you fill the pots up with soil and poke your finger into the soil to make a hole about as deep as half the length of your finger.
Once this is done drop a few seeds in and fill the hole back in with soil. Repeat this process for each of the four pots, and be sure to mark the pots with which liquid you will be watering them with.
Once your seeds are planted you can place your pots in a sunny area such as a windowsill, or even outside, depending on the season and the climate. Next you should fill up four spray bottles, one with water, one with milk, one with juice and one with vinegar. Be sure to mark each bottle so you know which is which. Water them once a day with the different liquids and keep a chart of how well each plant is doing each day.
