5th Grade Science Experiments
Most 5th grade science experiments are a little more involved than previous years, and are mostly done by the students with minimal help from teachers or parents. Students are old enough to handle the responsibility of choosing fifth grade science experiments, asking a question and experimenting to find the answer to their question. They may need some guidance along the way, but most of it should be done by the student.

Learning The Science of Apples
Experiment: Where is the best place to store apples?
Category: Chemistry
Ages: Elementary School
One interesting fifth grade science project is to find out where the best place to store apples is. Everyone wants their produce to last as long as possible, so this is a great experiment for students. All they need is a bag of apples, a fridge, a wicker basket and a plastic bowl. Simply put a few fresh apples in the crisper in the fridge, place a few in a wicker fruit bowl and a few in a plastic bowl. Store the apples in the fruit bowl and plastic bowl on the dining room table or kitchen cupboard.
Have the students check the apples in the fridge, wicker and plastic bowls every few days and see which ones start to go bad first. Once they have eliminated which apples go bad first, see which one will go bad second. Continue the experiment until they have the answer as to the best place to store apples to keep them freshest the longest. Be sure to have the students record and share all their findings with friends and family, so they can keep their apples fresh as long as possible!
