In these recessionary times, many more parents face the dilemma of acceding to the wishes of their children for top-of-the line 9th grade science fair projects with balancing the household budget for bills and other educational expenses. After all, parents and children view science fair projects in different ways - parents on more bang for the buck, children on just more bang and boom effect.

Fortunately, there are ways to balance the wants of children with the needs of parents. These ways include discussing your options as a family to recycling old materials to make way for ingenious experiments.
Discuss as a Family
Let's face it. Science fair projects on any grade level affect every household member for the simple reason that schedules and pockets are affected. Older siblings will contribute their time, effort and expertise to the project while parents will contribute all these and foot the bill, to boot
Thus, it is only logical that 9th grade science fair projects must be discussed as a family even for just 30 minutes on a set schedule. You should provide sufficient time for everybody to come up with ideas to present at the table. This way, you can brainstorm freely and, hence, come up with viable ideas faster and easier.
Also, it will be the best venue to discuss the budget. Keep in mind that the siblings of the science genius may have educational needs that you did not foresee and, hence, did not take into account during initial discussions.
Recycle and Reuse Materials
Well, of course, you can always purchase the shiny thingamajig over at the online site selling obviously top-of-the-line, supposedly award-winning and definitely pocket-draining 9th grade science fair projects. This is, after all, your child we are talking about and your child deserves the best, is it not right?
Well, not exactly. The most expensive is not necessarily the best especially where raising children are concerned. In fact, if you provide them with every toy and thingamajig just because you want to avoid tantrums and threats, you are doing a disservice to yourself and to your child.
Anyways, you should find ways to replicate the store-bought projects in your own home from old junk. Or better yet, you can always make a better one than the one-size-fits-all projects, which you never knew another parent is buying for his child for the same science fair.
There are many recycling ideas you can apply for 9th grade science fair projects, of which the most notable are the following:
·Toys, gadgets and small appliances - You can harvest their electronic components for use in the projects. Just make sure that you have basic knowledge of how to work with electrical appliances.
·Old containers, pots and pans - You may use these containers as base for the projects such as when showing how seeds germinate and methods for prevention of soil erosion.
·Styrofoam and packing peanuts - You can use these materials to test the noise pollution levels, demonstrate buoyancy and even alternative uses for such environmentally toxic materials.
Indeed, with a little imagination and plenty of resourcefulness, you and your child can actually come to terms on the best 9th grade science fair projects - best for your budget and best for your child's grade and development as a young scientist.
