Balloon Hovercraft Science Experiment
Balloon Hovercraft Science Experiment
I recommend these printable science project plans for K-12 for hundreds of great project blueprints and this step-by-step guide for doing an award winning science fair project. Also be sure to check out these fun science kits as a fast, simple way to get started on your science experiment.
What You Need:
1 Cd-Rom
Thumbtack/sharp pencil
Cardboard
Balloon
Plastic PVC pipe (cut to size by an adult)
Sandpaper
Hot glue gun
See a video demonstration
of creating the balloon hovercraft experiment.
Demonstrates Science Category: Physics
Ages: Elementary Science (with adult assistance), Middle School Science
What To Do:
1) Place hot glue on the CD surface- see
video demonstration
2) Place cardboard on center hub (hole) of CD
3) Turn CD over and repeat steps 1 & 2
4) Return CD to top facing position. Place glue on cardboard and affix PVC pipe
5) Turn CD upside down and poke a hole through the cardboard- see
video demonstration
6) Blow up balloon
7) Attach balloon to PVC pipe- see
video demonstration
8) Place hovercraft on a smooth surface
9) Slightly lift up balloon to allow air to slowly escape
10) Push hovercraft slightly to get started, and it will "float" on smooth surface.
Demonstrates scientific principles: Forces and Motion
This experiments demonstrates the same science that is used in real hovercraft. It demonstrates the use of air pressure to propel an object (hovercraft), which moves with very little friction.
