Cool Science Projects

There are many cool science projects that you can do at home. Cool science experiments usually involve building something or making something that yields a finished product. One of the most coolest projects that you can make is a salt water tester. Cool science projects like this are hands on, easy to do and they can be done again and again.

I recommend these printable science project plans for K-12 for hundreds of great project blueprints and this step-by-step guide for doing an award winning science fair project. Also be sure to check out these fun science kits as a fast, simple way to get started on your science experiment.

Test if Water is Salty Using Electricity
Category: Physics>Electricity
Ages: Elementary, Middle school **With Adult Supervision

Materials Needed:

  • Buzzer
  • 9 Volt Battery
  • Masking Tape
  • 2 Craft Sticks
  • Foil
  • Plastic Cups
  • Salt Water

To begin this science project you will take your two craft sticks and cover them with foil. Make sure the foil is snuggly wrapped around each craft stick. Then, take the red wire from your buzzer and tape it to the plus side of your 9 volt battery. Next, take one of your foil covered craft sticks and attach it to the black wire that is on your buzzer. Tape the other foil covered craft stick to the minus side of the 9 volt battery.

Check to make sure that all of your connections are snug. You can test your experiment by touching the two ends of metal together. Once you are sure that your buzzer is working you can start testing water. Put saltwater in a plastic cup. Place each metal end in the cup of saltwater. Make sure the two ends don't touch. If the water is salty the salt will act as a conductor for the currents and make the buzzer go off. You can also test this with water and vinegar or sugar water.
