Electricity Science Projects
Electricity science projects can be very interesting for students and their audience. So many strange and wonderful things can be done with electricity these days. Electric cars would be an excellent example of what could be done with electricity. While building an electric car may be a tad much for a science project, there are many other topics of interest. Let’s take a look at one such project; finding out if a lemon can produce an electric current.

The Electric Fun Of Science
Experiment: Can a lemon give off electricity?
Category: Environmental Science
Ages: Middle School
For this project you will need a lemon, some copper wire (18 gauge is best), a paperclip, wire cutters and a sheet of coarse sand paper. To get started you need to strip two inches of insulation off the copper wire and clip the two inches of bare wire with the cutters, straighten out the paper clip and cut about two inches off the straightened steel wire, then use your sand paper to smooth any rough spots on the ends of the wires.
Squeeze the lemon gently with your hand, but don’t rupture the skin. Push the pieces of the paperclip and the wire into the lemon so they are as close as possible without touching each other.
The final step is to moisten your tongue with saliva and touch the tip of your wet tongue to the free ends of the two wires. You should be able to feel a slight tingle on the tip of your tongue and taste something metallic. There you have it, a great electricity science fair project!
