Elementary Science Fair Projects

Most elementary science fair projects will not exactly involve rocket science although many pupils will attempt to do just that kind of thing, provided that their parents and teachers were on hand to provide the proper guidance especially in safety measures. Just remember that the role of your parents and teachers in your science fair projects stops at guidance.

If the judges are convinced that your sophisticated science fair project was mostly conducted by your parents, you can be automatically disqualified. So, to avoid such a sad event from happening, here are fairly easy but still challenging science fair projects for the elementary levels.

Chemistry Category

The best thing about elementary science fair projects involving chemistry is that no sophisticated equipment, no lengthy time period and no complicated explanations are necessary. For example, take the experiment on how salinity affects the freezing rate of water.

Just place water in containers with the same shape, size and volume. Add in different amounts of salt to the water, place in the refrigerator and measure the effect in terms of the water's temperature before it can freeze. You can then discuss the implications in daily life such as the reasons why salt is used to melt snow.

Other experiments can include:

·Uses of oil from plastic products to cooking activities

·Role of oxygen in making fire

·Manufacture of glass and why its properties are different from the ingredients

Physics Category

For elementary science fair projects in the physics category, you may consider the following projects that require construction of things and then study of how it affects performance:

·Electromagnets can be made from an iron nail, a small gauge of wire and a 9-volt battery. You have many directions for study with electromagnets from the size of the battery to the strength of the magnet in attracting objects.

·Airplane wings have significant roles in making this form of transportation take to the air. You may construct different wing types and demonstrate how each one creates lift and, hence, determine airplane flight.

·Water distillation is also a good science fair project because of its practical implications. You can purchase a basic distillation kit from science stores and sites to carry out the project. Just add in the water and the food color as well as the containers.

Biology Sector

Yet another easy category for elementary science fair projects lies in the field of biology. Often, you just need a few simple equipment and materials, pen and paper and a keen sense of observation to pull it off.

For example, you can perform an experiment dealing with tropism. You can use sunflowers to study how and why these plants seem to follow the sun's direction during their growth stages. Or you can also study the mimosa with its behavior of closing leaves when touched by so much as a whisper of the wind.

You have so many choices in elementary science fair projects. The trick is in knowing what your interests are in life and then transferring one of those interests into an enjoyable activity that will get good grades.
