Environmental science fair projects are chosen by people who are interested in how the environment works and how we can help out Mother Nature. There are so many ways we harm nature in our everyday lives, whether we mean to or not, that it is nice to be able to give something back and improve the world around us, even a little bit because everything we do counts. Some of the simple ways we can help out are composting and recycling.

Composting can be done in your own backyard. It is very simple and great for the environment, because it allows the return of much needed nutrients into the food chain. It’s basically the decaying of food, mostly fruits and vegetables. All you need is a plastic or wooden compost bin and you can fill it with grass clippings, leaves, and leftovers from your kitchen. You have to avoid putting meat into the composter, because they will not breakdown like the fruits and vegetables will. Once you have added a few items to the composter, dump a shovel full of soil into it to cover everything. Soon many creatures will take up residence in your compost bin, including earth worms, yeast, fungi, ants and nematodes. Recycling is another way to help the environment, which involves processing used materials into new products to prevent the waste of potentially useful materials and reduces the consumption of fresh raw materials.
