Fun Science Fair Projects

If you are looking for fun science fair projects, you are not alone. Everyone wants to be the one with the crowd gathered around their project. Fun science projects not only get you noticed, but they are creative. One of the best science projects is the nerve tester. In this experiment you will create a machine much like one at a carnival that helps people test their nerves.

I recommend these printable science project plans for K-12 for hundreds of great project blueprints and this step-by-step guide for doing an award winning science fair project. Also be sure to check out these fun science kits as a fast, simple way to get started on your science experiment.

Test Your Nerves
Category: Physics>Electricity
Ages: Elementary, Middle school

Materials Needed:

  • Buzzer
  • Red Electrical Wire
  • Black Electrical Wire
  • Wire Coat Hanger
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Sand Paper
  • Tape
  • CardBoard
  • Two D Batteries

To begin this science project you will remove any cardboard or paper from your wire hanger. Untwist the wire hanger so that it is flat. Then, take your sandpaper to remove any coating that is on the wire hanger. Make sure you get as much of the coating off as you can because it makes it easier for the current to travel the wire if the coating is gone.

Next, take your aluminum foil and make three flat strips and one long hoop. Then, take the batteries and connect them with one of your foil strips. Connect the plus side of one battery to minus on the other. This allows the electricity to flow between them. Tape one strip to each of the leftover foil strips to the open connection on each battery.

Hook the foil that leads to the positive side of the battery to the wire hanger and make sure the metals are touching. Tape the black wire from your buzzer to the foil lead on the negative side of the battery. Take your buzzer's red wire and tape it to your foil hoop. Now you can try to move the foil hoop along the coat hanger and see if you can get to the other side without making the buzzer go off.
