High School Science Projects

Easy Categories of High School Science Projects

In many ways, high school science projects demand more time, effort and, in come cases, more money for various reasons. For one thing, you have to work hard in order to get a passing grade, which is not as easy in high school as it may have been in your elementary years. For another thing, you have to use the scientific method as accurately as possible since models and demonstrations from your elementary years may not make the cut.

Lest you start thinking that passable high school projects in science are impossible, think again. The trick is in choosing the science project that best answers your interests in life or your unanswered questions, whichever is the easier for you to decide on. You may end up with one of the best, if not the best, high school science projects in your class, to boot.

Here are easy categories that you can choose from in your science projects. You may have to ask your parent or teacher for guidance but remember that most of the work will fall squarely on your shoulders.

Medicine and Health

We all know that lack of physical activity leads to health problems like obesity. However, you want to measure its effects on a amore accurate basis, say, differences in weight, behavior and other aspects of health.

Since you do not have the resources, time and expertise to conduct human studies, you can resort to the staple of medical research - mice. In fact, these little critters are also staples in many high school science projects because of their ease of handling.

Basically, you will divide mice into two groups. The first group will be confined in area that restricts movement while the second group will have freedom of movement. Of course, each group must be of similar weights, ages and physical condition when the study first started as well as fed the same amount of food so that comparisons can be made as to their progress later on.

Physics and Engineering

If you are into physics and engineering, then building a low-cost plasma reactor may just be the project for you. By the way, plasma is a gas where certain portions are ionized such as the common neon signs and the heavenly stars.

The best thing about making a plasma reactor is that the parts can be purchased from hardware and electrical supply stores. All you have to do is to research on the design and operation of plasma reactors, assemble them into working devices and then test their capabilities. You may think of plasma reactors as one of the more impressive high school science projects.

There are many more science projects applicable to the high school level, which include ideas like comparisons of natural insecticides, development of software to predict the effects of climate change, and analysis of the effects of aging on memory. No matter the science projects chosen, you have to maintain the balance between ensuring that it is sufficiently easy to conduct without the need for sophisticated equipment but it must also be challenging so as to stand out from the rest of the class.
