Kids Science Fair Projects

Kids science fair projects can be a lot of fun for the parents, the children and the teachers. Kids are so full of question that they should have no trouble coming up with a science project topic for them to tackle. They will need your help and guidance to do their experiment and will likely enjoy the extra attention they get while doing the experiment.

I recommend these printable science project plans for K-12 for hundreds of great project blueprints and this step-by-step guide for doing an award winning science fair project. Also be sure to check out these fun science kits as a fast, simple way to get started on your science experiment.

Materials Needed:

  • Paper
  • Water

How Waterproof Is Mascara
Experiment: Is waterproof mascara really waterproof?
Category: Chemistry
Ages: Elementary School

One fun experiment for them to try is to see if water proof mascara is really water proof. All kinds of products make claims but how accurate are they really? Let’s find out! All you need for this experiment is a few different brands of mascara, a few sheets of paper and a tap with running water. Brush one brand of mascara onto a sheet of paper, then the other brand or two onto other pieces of paper. Be sure to label each paper with which brand of mascara you used on it. Allow the mascara to have a little bit of time to dry, and then take the first piece of paper and place it under the running water for about ten seconds. Did any of it come off? If so, how much? Record your results and then do the same with the one or two other brands of mascara; run each sheet of paper under the water and record your results. Which brand held up better? Do any of them seem truly water proof to you? Make a chart to show your findings.
