Physics Science Fair Projects
Physics science fair projects deal with the study of matter and energy. Physics focuses on understanding electricity, energy, gravity, machines, magnets, and how certain materials change and combine in order to understand how the world and universe around us works. There are still many areas of the world and the universe that are unknown to man, and physics tries to understand these mysteries and see how they work.

Cooling Some Refreshing Soda
Experiment: What is the quickest way to cool a soda?
Category: Physics
Ages: Elementary School, Middle School
One fun physics science fair project that is great to try on a hot summer day is to find out what the quickest way to cool a soda is. This is great to know if you forget to put soda in your refrigerator and are in need of a cool drink. First you need to gather your materials; six cans of room temperature soda, a digital thermometer, two Styrofoam coolers, ice cubes, water, a timer and some plastic wrap. The pop needs to be opened to test the temperature, so you will need the plastic wrap to wad up and put in the opening of the can after you check the temperature to keep it from going flat and minimize evaporation.
You will need to prepare an ice only bath by filling a Styrofoam cooler with enough ice to cover the can of soda, and then you need to prepare an ice water bath by adding the same amount of ice to the second Styrofoam cooler and then covering the ice with water. Test the temperature of the room temperature soda and then place one can in each cooling device; water bath, ice water bath, refrigerator, and freezer and note the time you put them in. Check the cans of soda at five minute intervals to see which one cools the quickest and record your results.
