Quick Science Experiments
There are many quick science experiments to choose from, and they can come in handy if you’re running behind on a project for school, or if you just want to conduct a quick experiment at home for your own amusement. You would still use the basic categories; Purpose (Question), Hypothesis, and Conclusion, there will just be less actual experimenting involved.
I recommend these printable science project plans for K-12 for hundreds of great project blueprints and this step-by-step guide for doing an award winning science fair project. Also be sure to check out these fun science kits as a fast, simple way to get started on your science experiment.

The Taste of Ants
Experiment: Will ants be more attracted to sugar water, salt water or plain water?
Category: Biology
Ages: Elementary, Middle School
Quick science experiments can include seeing which sort of water ants will be more attracted to, sugar water, salt water, or just plain old tap water. This is a great project for a short time frame because the set up and actual experiment don’t take long at all, but still answer a question.
All you need to do is gather up some ants, this can be done as easily as grabbing a container and going into your backyard, or taking a walk down the street as ants often make their ant hills on lawns or sidewalks and driveways. Make sure not to collect any red ants though, you don’t want to get bit or lose any in your house! Next, get out two bowls and put some water in them. In one bowl add a teaspoon or two of sugar, and in the other bowl add the same amount of salt. Then grab a piece of paper and draw three circles on it, one labeled plain water, one labeled sugar water, and one labeled salt water. Next you take the eye dropper and put a puddle of sugar water in one of the circles, then do the same with the salt water and some plain water from your tap. Then put some ants in the center of the paper and document which type of water they prefer. You need to watch them for a few minutes as they will likely try one water then move on to the next.
