Quick Science Projects

Quick science projects are no less interesting than a project that takes a long time to complete. You don’t need to spend a lot of time to have a great project. You can still have lots of fun and learn a lot from a quick project, and they require the same basics; a question, a hypothesis and a conclusion. It does however require the same amount of effort, enthusiasm and planning. Probably one of the most difficult parts of a science fair project is coming up with a topic to research. Make sure you pick a topic that interests you, otherwise it’s not going to be fun and you will likely lose interest.

I recommend these printable science project plans for K-12 for hundreds of great project blueprints and this step-by-step guide for doing an award winning science fair project. Also be sure to check out these fun science kits as a fast, simple way to get started on your science experiment.

Materials Needed:

  • 1 Glass
  • Egg
  • Table Salt

Resting On Water: The Salty Experiment
Experiment: How much salt does it take to float an egg?
Category: Chemistry
Ages: Elementary, Middle School

One quick science fair project is to see how much salt it takes to float an egg. For this project you will need very few supplies; just glasses to put the egg in, some table salt, water, and of course an egg. You can start by hypothesizing how much salt you think it will take to sink the egg. Next take a glass, place an egg in it, and fill it about three-quarters full with water. Then start by adding one teaspoon of salt, and be sure to record your results after each teaspoon. Continue adding salt one teaspoon at a time until the egg begins to float.

This is a great quick science project as it takes very little time to complete but is still quite interesting and fun.
