Science Fair Projects For Middle School
Science fair projects for middle school are not expected to be completely original, but your presentation should be. Middle school science experiments need to be a little more involved than elementary school projects were, and focus more on the report and presentation. This will help prepare you for high school where the science fairs will be much more competitive.
I recommend these printable science project plans for K-12 for hundreds of great project blueprints and this step-by-step guide for doing an award winning science fair project. Also be sure to check out these fun science kits as a fast, simple way to get started on your science experiment.

Middle School Science Fun
Experiment: How much starch do some of the popular foods we eat contain?
Category: Biology
Ages: Middle School
One interesting science project for middle school students would be to test how much starch is in many of the common foods we eat. For this experiment, you will need a glass jar, a plastic plate, some iodine, water, an eye dropper, a starch chart and small samples of some common foods like butter, rice, cheese, meat, raw potatoes and apples.
The first thing you need to do is to make the iodine solution, which is 50% water and 50% iodine mixed together in the glass jar. Next you can set the small samples of food onto the plastic plate. Then take your eye dropper and put a few drops of iodine on the first piece of food. If there is starch in the food the iodine will turn dark brown or blue-black. Record your findings on the starch chart and do the same with all the other foods and record them on the chart. How do they compare to one another?
